About

Ilkka Aho is a painter based in Turku who works with oil paints in the field of figurative art. A quiet aesthetic and refined traditional craftsmanship form the foundation of his artistic practice. Aho is best known for his still life paintings, but in recent years he has begun shifting his subject matter to more strongly incorporate depictions of space and landscape.

Thematically, Aho has worked with his own experiences. At the forefront have been portrayals of feelings of emptiness, loneliness, and melancholy, both as personal experiences and as fundamental aspects of the broader human condition. As with his choice of genres, Aho is at a turning point in his themes as well, searching for a future direction. Changes in his personal life and artistic experimentation have brought about a creative and inspired period.
